The member, House of Representatives, representing Epe Federal Constituency, Hon. Tasir Olawale Raji, is set to give out a whopping amount of 25 million naira cash grant, to about 1000 women petty traders, to cushion the effects of Covid-19 pandemic which ravaged the world this year.
In a chat with our correspondent this weekend, the Senior Legislative Aide, to the Lawmaker, Mr. Bashir Hassan stated that each of the beneficiaries, will be assisted with a N25,000 cash grant.
The initiative, tagged: “Wale Raji Grassroots Traders Cash Support”, is mainly for women who are petty-traders. The business range of this set of people is between N20,000 and N25,000.
Hassan, stated that his principal who is also the Chairman, Committee on House Services, actually believes that the effects of Covid-19 outbreak has eaten deep into the economy of the country.
He said, “People actually face a lot of challenges during Covid-19 lockdown, especially petty traders. Majority of them in the process of turning-over their sales, they have used most of it for feeding”.
Continuing, “They have to feed with what they have as business activities is down. So, for Hon. Wale Raji, to cushion the effects, he believes that having an initiative of a cash grant of #25,000 for 1000 constituents, is imperative”.
“By the time you inject that #25,000 into their markets, it will help the business. So, that is the reason he brought out the idea of the cash grant and at the same time, he is making sure that it is only women; small petty traders that will benefit”.
“And what makes it interesting is the fact that it is factored in a way that beneficiaries will cut across all markets, in Epe Federal Constituency”.
“We had a meeting with all the Iyalojas. The forms were actually given to them. So, that people will not see it has been just ‘political'”.
“So, the ‘Iyalojas’ would be the ones to choose some of the people in the market who sell petty things”
“There are also some consultants we engaged in, who go out on the field, to randomly select beneficiaries irrespective of their wards. In as much as he falls within the bracket of the people who need to access the cash grant”, he said.
All things been equal, Hassan, stated that presentation would be held on Thursday, 19/11/2020.
